We’re broadcasting a similar interview every hour on the hour with another developer here at the Palm Pre Dev Camp.

AT 1PM We are broadcasting a talk by Eric Marthinsen of Agile Commerce. The topic is MOJO: It’s Sources and Inspirations, where Eric talks about where Mojo came from, how it is similar to and how it differs from other frameworks used for application development

More talks coming tomorrow, we’ll put them online asw e schedule them.

BlueSwitch Hosts preDevCamp Fri-Sun In New York City

Hi everybody,

After a very successful Palm Pre meetup in New York a couple of weeks ago (Forbes article http://tinyurl.com/krkvep), BlueSwitch is now hosting the preDevCamp in New York City! It’s going to be a fun event, where we’ll

  • program a fun app (TBD) in webOS and Mojo and watch some streaming videos from other world-wide WebOS events, including the streams from the Palm Pre development team live from Palm HQ in Sunnyvale!
  • have a few speakers of our own, including Eric Marthinsen of Agile Commerce, which authored the FlightView app in the App Catalog
  • eat pizza and subway sandwiches, drink beer and soda
  • compare iPhone, Android and Palm Pre development, with a look at each environment
  • geek out with other cool software developers and discuss, discuss, discuss

Anyone with a fun idea for the app for the hackathon, drop me an email at michael @hhht blueswitch dahhht caahhhm or meghan, same domain.

BREAKING NEWS Eric Marthinsen will be leading the Hackathon here in New York! Get ready for some serious coding, folks. He don’t mess ’round, people!

Also: despite being the newest entrant into the mobile platform space, the Mojo application framework carries itself with an air of maturity that belies its true age. In a special talk, Eric will describe the key aspects of Mojo development and demonstrate how it is based on the solid foundation of tools web developers use already. Don’t miss this, it’s going to be GREAT!

BREAKING NEWS Welcome to Alex Cone and CodeFab, the premiere Mac/Cocoa development shop in New York City, who will be sponsoring Saturday’s food and drink! Hungry and thirsty developers everywhere salute you, Alex!

preDevCamp Is Go!

I just released a post on whurley.com entitled “Phone Warz: Revenge Of The Palm?” discussing how ever since I helped pull together iPhoneDevCamp with Raven Zachary and Chris Messina back in 06, Ive been hawking the other manufacturers looking for a legit challenge to the iPhones throne; secretly to have another event.

Anyway, I was discussing this whole scenario with @Giovanni and @DanCrumb this weekend, and we had quite an amusing round of what-ifs. We had so much fun bumpin our gums, we decided to up the ante. Today @Giovanni, @DanCrumb and I (@whurley) are launching preDevCamp 2009.

The event will be held in around 60 cities around the world exactly one week after the U.S. release of the Palm Pre. Since the phone is Linux+WebKit, development should be easy for us to share the love. Tell your friends. Invite your neighbors. Weve got satellite events lined up in over 30 cities around the world. If you want to enlist, visit the website and tell us your city. If theres not a leader in that city, then you just got promoted.
